Hugh MacLennan (1907 - 1990)

Many consider Hugh MacLennan Canada's first major contemporary writer. His ambitious novels about national identity as Canadian cultural nationalism was growing and peaking made his name synonymous for a time with Canadian literature as a whole. EACH MAN'S SON, with which the bust is finished, was based on his boyhood in the mining communities of Cape Breton Island, where he was raised.
